Sunday’s Story

Sunday is a senior in college studying to be a secondary school teacher.  Carol asked the children to think about and then write about this question:  “What would you like the donors to know? How have donor contributions helped you? “ At Carol’s birthday party at the farm, the children wrote their responses.

Dear Family in America,

First of all, I would like to express my appreciation. I am so blessed to be sponsored by you and have grown up with Action for Children Zambia. They say no appreciation is enough to say thank you for your great kindness, but here I I want to try.  You have provided me with hope and courage to live a better life. I lived in desperation because of the difficulties I experienced.  I have gone through several disasters that made me too sad to even talk about. In fact, if I had not received your help and love, I would have lost all confidence to continue my life.  Luckily, the difficulties didn't affect my studies, but strengthened and motivated me to study harder.

Your generosity means a lot to me.  It provides me a home, a mother and an education. The only thing I can do to reward your kindness is to study hard.  In January I begin my senior year in college, majoring in secondary education.  I know I will be a good teacher and hope to be a source of pride for AFCZ.

You have given me so much love and care that I cannot find enough words to express my gratitude.  I would like to say thank you once again. I wish you a peaceful and happy life forever.  Through you, God's love reaches people throughout Zambia. May God Bless and protect you always.

With love and appreciation,

Sunday Mashikini
